Cause of Amsterdam train failure known, no train traffic possible on Friday night due to downshift | Interior

The cause of the malfunction in the traffic control post in Amsterdam has been found, ProRail reports on Thursday. It concerns a defective hardware part in the system for operating signals and points. In the night from Friday to Saturday, there will be a switch back to the traffic control center in Amsterdam. As a result, no train traffic is possible in the Amsterdam region.

Until then, work will be done from the backup location in Utrecht. Due to the change of traffic control post, no train traffic is possible in the Amsterdam region during the night from Friday to Saturday (from midnight to early Saturday morning). ‘NS is investigating other possibilities, but the first impression is that they will be very limited,’ says ProRail.

NS therefore advises travelers to arrange alternative transport or not to travel in the Amsterdam region. ‘ProRail and NS emphasize that they find it extremely annoying for travelers who have to deal with this.’

Since Sunday, June 4, there has been a major malfunction in the Amsterdam traffic control post, which made it necessary to divert to Utrecht, ProRail reports. Train traffic in Amsterdam and the surrounding area is still served from the fallback location in Utrecht. Train traffic is currently not affected by this. This gives us the opportunity to first carry out extensive tests on the system in Amsterdam.

ProRail is now preparing for the switch back to the traffic control center in Amsterdam on Friday night. ‘This is done at night, to keep the nuisance for train traffic to a minimum. We are doing everything we can to have everything ready when the first trains start running again on Saturday.’
