Horrible news for Catherine Keyl: the television celebrity ended up in a wheelchair three weeks ago. “I cannot sit, but walk ten steps and then only lie down.”
Unfortunately, things are not going well for Catherine Keyl. The presenter, who announced last month that she will not have her face remodeled any further, ended up in a wheelchair three weeks ago. She can walk ten steps at most and that’s all. Then she has to go back to bed to lie flat.
Catherine in wheelchair
What is going on? “Photos were taken, MRI done, preliminary conclusion: bursitis in the hip. But after three weeks and an injection, it is still no better,” she writes in her column The Telegraph. “Suddenly I was in a wheelchair on the way to our beautiful new hospital.”
However, the renovated Tergooi MC is terribly poorly designed for people in wheelchairs, according to Catherine. For example, the doors of the examination rooms are two centimeters too narrow for wheelchair access. The result? “You have to maneuver endlessly.”
Lying alone
Even worse: Catherine cannot wait while lying down. “Because I can only lie down, I hoped for a bench in the waiting room. Nowhere. Beautiful iron design railings made of rock-solid steel.”
One time she almost couldn’t cope, on the way to the physiotherapist. “The first day I stagger to the physio, just when I think I’m going to pass out from the pain, a complete stranger puts her arm through mine.”
Moving, she thinks. “I am extremely grateful that such lovely people live in the Netherlands.”
