Catherine Keyl out of NPO Radio 1: ‘After statements about climate’

Catherine Keyl is no longer part of the Mediaforum, the daily media section on NPO Radio 1. She says she was dismissed because of her opinion on the climate.

She is no longer welcome in the well-known NPO Radio 1 section Het Mediaforum: 76-year-old media star Catherine Keyl. The presenter was ‘kicked out’ by telephone, she explains The Telegraph. “I have an unpleasant announcement for you,” she was told by the editor-in-chief. “We don’t think you should come anymore.”

Catherine cancelled

It is a striking decision, because Catherine has been experiencing a real media boom in the past year. She has become a louder voice in the public debate, including through her column in De Telegraaf. An appearance in Today Inside also seems imminent, because Johan Derksen has spoken positively about her.

In any case, at KRO-NCRV’s Spraakmakers, which includes the Media Forum, they no longer have any interest in Catherine. After years of joining the studio, she was suddenly canceled. She doesn’t have to come by anymore.

Climate view

Why is Catherine no longer welcome? “No, I wasn’t too old, the lady said. They only wanted program makers in that forum. Who took my place? Hanneke Groenteman. Not a maker either, but with an opinion that they apparently prefer to hear.”

It is therefore not the real reason for her departure, says Catherine. “I have been quite critical of the climate measures. I am not grateful for that.”

Anti Carice

Catherine has spoken out against climate fighter Carice van Houten, who camps on the A12 every day. She recently spoke of ‘actresses who lie down on the A12 as a protest against the environment, but who then travel back and forth to America or Australia three times a month because they have boyfriends or work there’.

In other words: Carice. “If you ask them about it, it’s called functional travel. Yes, nice and principled. Just like those environmental fanatics who of course shower for at least 20 minutes every day, because that’s what they’re used to.”
