Catherine Keyl is pleased that Caroline van der Plas became the largest party in the Netherlands in the provincial elections last week. She thinks she’s a great politician. “In my opinion, everyone is also completely wrong about why she won,” said the TV personality Business class.

Sober Caroline

How does Catherine see it then? “It didn’t win because of the nitrogen or because of the urban-rural contrast. She won because she is a woman who has her feet on the ground, who is sober and speaks a language that everyone understands.”

She continues: “If at some point she says: ‘Say, stop with that bullshit’, everyone will know what we’re talking about. There is currently a group in power in The Hague that no longer speaks that language at all.”

Catherine lashes out

Catherine lashes out at VVD minister Christianne van der Wal. “When such a party wins so much, how can you say as a minister: ‘Well, we’ll just continue with the nitrogen where we started’? Then you don’t have any feelings for anyone else, do you? If such a great victory has been achieved, then you are not going to say that, are you?”

Such a Christianne has a huge plate in front of her head, according to the former talk show host. “She has to say, ‘Well, let’s think about what we’re going to do next.’”

Away from the Netherlands

Should the BBB nevertheless collapse like a house of cards, Catherine certainly hopes that Sigrid Kaag will not become the biggest. “I don’t think it’s good to keep bashing her either, but I did say to all my friends, and I’m saying that to you now: ‘If that woman ever becomes Prime Minister, I will leave the Netherlands.’ ”

Wouldn’t Catherine herself want to become a minister in a possible Van der Plas cabinet? “No dude, stop, no. No, dude, shut up. No, I’ve worked hard enough in my life. Nice of you to say so, but…”
