Catherine Keyl finally discovers why she fell down the stairs so hard

It was only after a long time that Catherine Keyl discovered why she had such a terribly nasty fall on her own stairs a year and a half ago. “I have long wondered how that was possible.”

The day before King’s Day was quite fateful for two senior celebrities: Johan Derksen made his controversial candle joke that almost got him canceled and Catherine Keyl had a horribly ugly fall on her own stairs at home. She then had to recover from a head wound, a bruised sternum and a broken rib.

‘How could it?’

Catherine tells the Party that she wondered for a long time why she fell on those stairs. “I’m doing fine now, but for a long time I wondered how I fell on my own stairs while holding on to the handrail. I only found that out much later. The handrail turned out to be the problem.”

Then what was with that railing? “It had been shot loose and I didn’t notice that. I lost my balance and fell backwards down the stairs. The doctor told me to allow six weeks for minimal recovery, but I was better in three weeks. That’s how important it is to be in good shape.”

Uncertain for weeks

The cause of that fall left Catherine unsure for a long time. “I was very shocked by it. For weeks I was unsure, like: as long as I don’t fall again. But when someone came to hang up a television, they walked down the stairs and noticed that the railing was loose. So that was the cause of the fall.”

Catherine feared for a moment that the fall was due to the decline of her motor skills, but that is not the case. “I’m glad it was that handrail and not something else. Fortunately, I recovered quickly and everything is fine now.”
