Catherine Keyl and Frank Masmeijer side by side on TV: ‘Criminal!’

Shortly after her hard blow at Frank Masmeijer, Catherine Keyl was confronted with him in a television studio. “Sorry, but you’re a convicted drug offender.”

It bothers many people that Frank Masmeijer gets a big podium from so many media, while he is a convicted drug criminal. There are plenty of people with a clean slate who have much more talent and don’t get a podium. Catherine Keyl is also annoyed by the attitude of the Dutch media.

“I’m sitting next to him!”

Catherine also points out in the Weekend that some celebrities who have not yet been convicted are being kept silent. “Recently I saw Frank Masmeijer speaking extensively everywhere. That is a convicted drug criminal, why should we hear what he thinks? Make sure you have Marco Borsato, who has not been convicted, on that chair.”

And suddenly she was confronted with Frank yesterday; together they were in a TV show of Broadcasting Flevoland. “I just say what I think and sometimes that can have serious consequences. I said in a magazine this week that I did not understand why Frank Masmeijer was a guest everywhere and behold: the Lord punishes immediately, I am now sitting next to him.”

“Do you see it as punishment?”

The presenter on duty: “Oh, do you see it as a punishment?”

Catherine laughs: “Oh, no, sorry, no. Well, look, I said that I just think it’s sad that someone like Marco Borsato who hasn’t been accused of anything yet, that you don’t see him anywhere anymore, and that yes… Sorry… You are a convicted drug criminal and you get a chance to be here in this program.”

Unfair

That’s unfair, Catherine thinks. “While I’m sure there are thousands of young people who would love to bring their first song here and they don’t get that chance.”

Frank does not feel like responding substantively to Catherine’s criticism. “I don’t really feel like responding to that anymore. I once said: ‘I hope everyone deserves a second chance.’”

Catherine: “I’ll grant you that too, that’s not the point.”

Enough said

Frank is kind of fed up with all his critics. “I mean to say: enough has already been said about my case and what my role in it has been. It is and remains very difficult this story. It is also very difficult now to come back. I am also just a person who likes fun and people.”

He concludes: “I have rolled into something that has been very unfortunate, stupid and annoying, it now appears to me, and I hope to get out of it. And comments like this don’t help. That is difficult. You just have to deal with that.”
