Hanneke de Marco, hostess and owner of restaurant Amici d’Italia in Oss, passed away on Monday at the age of fifty. She fell into a coma due to the corona virus in 2020 and was hospitalized for weeks. This was followed by a long illness because she developed a muscle disease.
After three years, there was no hope of recovery. De Marco therefore opted for rest and died on Monday in the presence of her family, as can be read on Facebook.
Hanneke has been running the Italian restaurant Amici d’Italia since 2008 with her husband Bortelino de Marco. Hanneke was the chef and hostess. But when she ended up in hospital in 2020, her daughter Anna took over the job from her. Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign by friends and family, the restaurant survived. When her husband died of throat cancer in December 2021, their son Alessandro took over the business. He also still runs IJssalon Alessandro, which he took over from his father earlier.
The family announces on Facebook that Hanneke can be said goodbye on Thursday in the Amici restaurant. A condolence register can be signed there and a donation is possible to the Princess Beatrix Spierfonds, for more research into the Guillain-Barré syndrome. A private farewell and cremation will follow on Friday.
