The catering industry on the Markt in Assen will look different. Restaurant TOF and Grand Café ‘t Wapen will also close their doors after tomorrow. A new operator is already ready for TOF, but it is not yet known what will happen to the building of ‘t Wapen.
Hospitality entrepreneur Ronald Obbes announced that decision today. Last May he opened Restro TOF together with Wieger Janssens. The building of Grand Café ‘t Wapen was opened five years ago after a complete renovation.
Obbes has a number of reasons why he is now stopping ‘t Wapen. “I was still able to cancel the rent, which had to be done before September 1. And the uncertainty for the terrace on the Kop van de Vaart also plays a role. For a company like ‘t Wapen, it is important that you have a good terrace. we don’t have a permit, the terrace is tolerated. And it remains to be seen whether we will get a permit again at all.”
“And the fact that there is no terrace now is because the power supply has been broken for a month and has still not been fixed by the municipality,” continues Obbes. “And I’m bummed about that.” Obbes also owns other catering companies in the city and therefore wants to take things a bit easier.
Nevertheless, the catering entrepreneur regrets that he has to close his business. “The terrace here on the Kop was certainly one of the most beautiful places in Assen.” A successor is not ready yet. “There have been a number of phone calls, but I have not yet heard from anyone who is really interested. But maybe they have reported to the owner of the building.”
There is a successor ready for Restro TOF. Geert te Velde and his wife Alie take over the business from TOF. Te Velde already has several catering establishments on the Market under the name Auctieq. “We are going to further expand the concepts that we already have here.”
This means that Auctieq will get another restaurant, bringing the counter to four. For example, the owners have a diner café, a tasting room that will be renamed a dance and party room and Auctieq Feesten & Feesten. TOF will close its doors tomorrow evening, Te Velde will open on July 24 at that location with the diner café.
