Juan Jose Camacho ‘Catela’ has tested positive for covid-19 hours before the Spanish team plays against Slovakia (20.00) at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam their quarterfinal match of the Eurocup 2022 futsal.
According to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in a statement, the Viña Albali Valdepeñas player has tested positive in the test that was carried out this Tuesday on all the members of the delegation.
“By decision of the medical services of the Federation, daily tests are carried out on the members of the Spanish expedition, following the recommendations of the UEFA medical services. In addition, at the initiative of the RFEF itself, all members of the Spanish delegation are housed in individual roomsin order to limit close contacts,” explains the RFEF.
The Cadiz player, according to the federative body, gave a negative result on Monday in the UEFA tests to which all the members of the team underwent.
“Once this positive has been confirmed, the RFEF medical services have adopted all the necessary measures in a case of these characteristics, in accordance with the protocols established by both the health authorities of the Netherlands and those of UEFA itself. Catela is now isolated from the rest of the components of the Spanish Futsal team,” he says.
More complications for Fede Vidal
This is a serious setback for the Spanish team since Catela is a key player in the coach Fede Vidal’s scheme. The Cadiz winger will thus miss the duel against Slovakia (today, Tuesday 1, at 8:00 p.m.).
The mister already warned this Monday that Spain had to play “the perfect game” to beat the Slovaks, something that will be more complicated with the absence of the Valdepeñas winger. In the event of qualifying for the semifinals, ‘Catela’ would not be available either, while Vidal could not count on him in a hypothetical final either, since the protocol days of quarantine had not yet been completed.
