The Department of the Interior will no longer apply the gag law relying on European judgments and the Constitutional Court (TC). The Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignacio Elenaexplained on Catalunya Ràdio that in this way will stop fining those people who demonstrate “peacefully”, as well as journalists or photojournalists.
Elena has argued that options have been explored legally and that what will be done is to “weigh” the rights, such as the freedom of expression or manifestation. For Elena “it doesn’t make sense” that someone receives a sanction to mobilize peacefully. Agents will continue to lift record if there are incidents but the instruction will depend on Interior.
