After the 2021 elections, the coalition between ERC and JxCat was long in coming. In the end a pact between Pere Aragonès and Jordi Sánchez, then secretary general of Junts, made it possible. But it became clear that there were opposing Junts sectors and the reluctance of Puigdemont. If Junts invested Aragonès and was in the Government, the moral authority of the ‘legitimate president’ would lose glamour’.
