The Generalitat de Catalunya has decided to postpone the consultation on the 2030 Winter Olympics, scheduled for July 24, out of “respect” for the voters due to the lack of agreement on the possible candidacy with the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) and the Catalan and Aragonese governments.
Although the intention of the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, was to sign this week the decree formally calling said consultation, finally the Catalan Executive has chosen to postpone that consultationas Catalunya Ràdio has advanced and EFE sources from the Catalan government have confirmed.
According to these sources, The decision has been made out of “respect” for the citizens who must vote in the consultation, so that they make their decision with “all the information possible” that the Generalitat considers that it does not now have at its disposal about this hypothetical candidacy, of which it is unknown how it will end up conforming Finally.
The Generalitat, according to those same sources, blames the lack of agreement directly on the Government of Aragon and demands “as much speed” as possible from the COE to finish deciding the future of that possible Olympic candidacy.
