Cat Saartje has eight lives left after this Sunday: the animal was barely saved by the fire brigade after it got stuck in the engine head of a moving car.
The incident happened on Mozartstraat in Kerkrade. According to a correspondent at the scene, both the owners and the cat were shocked.
To sleep
Saartje sat under the hood of the car to take a nap. When the owners got into their car and started the engine, the animal became stiff.

The cat crawled even further under the engine block once the car started moving. After a kilometer the owners heard the cat’s meowing. The car was pulled over and after a few failed attempts to free the animal, the fire brigade was called.
‘Well done’
The fire brigade removed a number of parts to free Saartje. The cat was reunited in one piece with its owners. “All credits to the firefighters, perfect how they handled it”, says one of the owners with relief.
