Several residents told this morning on NH Radio what they experienced. “I noticed that the church bells kept ringing, it was not half or full when I looked at my watch,” says a male resident who walked his dog late last night.

earplug

In the nearly twenty years that he has lived here, he has never experienced this. “I saw that the hands had gone crazy. I went to sleep, put on an earplug and turned around. I didn’t hear it anymore.”

Another: “I couldn’t fall asleep for a while, and then you are a little too open to the things that are happening around you. And then I heard the church bells and I thought: ‘it’s 11:45 pm’. And then went it again!”

Church bells Protestant Church Castricum – NH Nieuws

The pastorate of the Protestant Church Castricum confirms to NH Nieuws that it is aware of the ‘whistleblower’. “That’s right, the sound was coming from us. We heard this story this morning too. We know the church bells were ringing at 11:45 PM last night, but have no idea for how long. The bells would ring out of nowhere came up,” said a church worker.

“Everything has been passed on to the police”

How the clocks could run wild is still unknown. “We also have enough questions, we only know the start time of the ringing. Everything has been passed on to the police.” The employee’s phone also rang last night, but due to the time and unknown number, she did not pick up the phone.

In the end, an employee of the municipality removed the fuses from the church tower, so that the bell sound stopped. “So they will also get to work with it. The police are now working on the incident and are investigating what happened.”

Quiet for now

This afternoon at noon, the church bells could not be heard this time. It is not yet known how long it will remain quiet in the village. A mechanic will come tomorrow to look into the cause of the runaway chime.

The police say that the case – despite the fact that several residents called the police yesterday evening / night – are not yet known to them. “This is done in consultation with the municipality of Castricum, which will first pass on the report to us. Then it will automatically be entered in our system,” said a police spokesperson.

Last month in Beverwijk

It is the second time in a short time that church bells in the region have run amok. So wrote the NHD on Saturday 1 October about the runaway church bell of the Lommerlust care center. There, the church bell kept many residents of the center of Beverwijk awake for hours. According to an employee of the care center, it was then about ‘vandalism’.
