Finnish designer Mert Otsamo’s costumes are a familiar sight at Linna’s parties. This year, too, there are several outfits designed by him.
The Independence Day reception at the Presidential Palace has not been organized in the usual way for two years due to the corona pandemic. The fashion designer thinks that this is why the invited guests really want to invest in their outfits.
None of Otsamo’s customers has wanted to play it safe, so to speak.
– This year we want to be brave and dress festively.

Colors and big hems
Finally, we get to enjoy the whole nation’s celebration again. The joy of that can be seen strongly in both the invited guests and the fashion designers designing costumes for the Castle’s celebration.
– Now it’s not easy, he sums up.

Sequins have often been used to create sparkles at Linna’s party. This year, spectacularity will be achieved by other means.
– Visibility is sought especially with colors and hem shapes.
The number of guests at the reception is about a third smaller than in previous years. With this, there is more space per guest in the party space.
Otsamo thinks that this may be especially visible in the size and hems of the hems. There is no need to skimp on the amount of material.

“Personality can be seen”
Otsamo believes that this year the suits will show even more the character of the wearer. At least that’s how it is in the evening dresses created by the designer. We no longer go so much ahead of trends, but more individualized wishes can be seen in suits.
– The personality can be seen, the fashion designer sums up.

According to him, personality can be seen, among other things, in the use of colors and graphic lines. One’s own values are brought out through costumes. They can be used to express, for example, responsibility by utilizing recycled materials. Otsamo also believes that the world situation will be reflected in this year’s Linna celebrations.
Otsamo hopes to see showiness and liberation in the form of costumes at Linna’s parties. He also expects to see standout suits he also expects to see.
– It’s always interesting to see what kind of topics they raise.
– I’m looking forward to what my colleagues have conjured up, he adds.
This year, there are many healthcare professionals as guests. The fashion designer is interested in seeing what kind of outfits they are wearing. However, there are two people whose apartment Otsamo is especially looking forward to.
– I want to see how Jenni Haukio and Sanna Marin are dressed.

This is how this year’s theme can be seen
Finland’s Independence Day is celebrated by the President of the Republic Sauli Niinistön and spouse Jenni Haukio hosted a reception on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at the Presidential Palace. The theme of the reception is self-confident Finland.
– Finland is currently a stable country in such an unstable time of the world. We have always survived challenging times by trusting ourselves and helping each other. This year we want to remember those who have worked for Finnish society and promoted Finland’s strengths with their own activities, President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö says the Office of the President of the Republic in the bulletin.

Otsamo thinks that the theme in question can be seen as patriotism. He believes that the party crowd prefers the handiwork of Finnish designers, and that an extraordinary amount of the color blue can be seen on the guests.
In addition to this, party-goers may be seen in rented costumes. Recycling and responsibility will definitely be seen strongly as well.
– The color blue is the classic color choice for Linna parties, but this year we will probably see it even more.
In addition to the blue color, Otsamo says that there will be costume brilliance in green tones.

A lot of attention is paid to the material. According to the fashion designer, the differences in the surfaces will be seen. The costumes for the castle celebration combine, for example, lace and silk, shiny and matte.
