Castle of Meulebeke shines again

The 17th century castle has been renovated according to the rules of art. And of course that also comes with a price tag: Meulebeke made no less than 2.5 million euros available for the project, excluding subsidies. Mayor Dirk Verwilst: “At one point the roof had become bulged and the concrete towers at the front were torn from their foundations, creating a risk of collapse. So that is a very important fact that the roof has been fully repaired.”

It was a difficult course to complete this project. “It has come to the point that even the unmanageability here in Meulebeke was partly due to this project because we couldn’t get out of it. But we persisted.”

At the very top, under the roof, there is room for parties or events with space for more than 100 people. On the first floor there is the impressive wedding hall. On the ground floor there is room for a catering business. The municipality is still looking for a concession holder for this. “I think a bistro would be the ideal scenario. A place that can bring something tasty to the plate, but at an affordable price.”
