Castle Days, two new weekends in September

Glarge cities and small towns animated by free guided tours, cultural activities and trekking. Lunches, dinners and concerts at the castle, special itineraries in 37 sites in 19 Italian regions to the north, center and south of the peninsula, including the islands. After the success of the first weekend of National Castle Days on May 13th and 14th, the initiative is repeated twice more: the first on 16 and 17 September and the second on 23 and 24 September.

The Days, studied and conducted by scholars of the Istituto Italiano Castelli, the organizing non-profit organization, have the aim of tell the story of architecture in the landscape and in the community to which they have belonged for centuries. «This year we decided – says Michaela Marullo Stagno D’Alcontres, new president of the Institute – to add collateral sites and numerous tourist itineraries on foot».

The importance of castles, treasures to be protected

The Institute takes care of safeguarding the castles Why “they are a treasure composed of history and social geographies. But also of deeds of women and men which over the centuries have animated, populated and guided territories and economies, thanks to the culture of Italian know-how”. And from this perspective, an adequate valorization project “will allow future generations to rediscover the tangible signs of history”.

What can be discovered from Abruzzo to Lazio

On the islands: Sardinia and Sicily
