Test laboratory and American track. Castilla y León will be, from now on, all this for Vox. An autonomous community, the first, in which the extreme right-wing party will try to implement its policies from a government led by the popular Alfonso Fernandez Manueco. But also a circuit full of obstacles -those of governing a territory and more in coalition- that the ultras will have to overcome to reach the next elections (the Andalusian ones, except surprise) with a record of services that allows them to get their chests out. And, in between, the task of testing the PP and serving as an example for future agreements intersects.
Four years after breaking into the institutions, the formation of Santiago Abascal will touch power Before, he already had opportunities -his votes were decisive in Andalusia in 2018 and in Madrid in 2021-, but the far-right party did not claim a quota in an autonomous government until February 13. “What a vice-presidential face Juan García-Gallardo is putting on!“, he snapped abascal on election day about the Vox candidate. An agreement of “11 axes and 32 actions” has made it possible.
For the first time in democracy, a far-right party will form part of a government, regional or national. García Gallardo will occupy the vice presidency, although without any specific portfolio, and they will have three ministries -Employment and Industry; Culture and Tourism; and Agriculture-. Vox will use these platforms to try to put into practice the premises that they have been promulgating for years. Although the pact reached with the PP includes imprecise proposals, the ultras did introduce the approval of a “law to combat domestic violence” or references to repeal of historical memory laws. It says nothing about the dismantling of the autonomous system, although the candidate defended it in the investiture debate.
