Castellan Fokko Werkman was murdered 20 years ago in Haule. Does carelessly expressed tobacco lead to the perpetrator? | Podcast Radio Ramkraak

After 20 years, will there finally be an answer to the question of who murdered Fokko Werkman from Haule? The police hope that a male smoker will come forward. He may know more about the murder. The police found a cigarette butt in an ashtray in Fokko Werkman’s home. The expressed cigarette contained DNA from an unknown man. He could be an important witness. “You have witnesses who saw something happen, but you also have witnesses who can contribute very important information to the investigation, like this man,” says cold case detective Jitcia Tamminga.

Werkman’s death still has a major impact on the surviving relatives, after 20 years they still do not know who the perpetrator is.

“I was supposed to open the pub at four o’clock and I was here at half past three,” says Geertje Stelma, Fokko Werkman’s ex-wife. The day normally starts on Sunday, October 12, 2003. “I found a bit of a mess in the pub, normally we would tidy everything up for each other. We were broken up. But we took turns going to the pub. I think, well I’ll just clean it up.”

What Geertje does not yet know is that her ex-husband has been murdered. A murder that has not been solved to this day. “I had the coffee ready. I think, I’ll call Fokko. We often had coffee together and then I found him lifeless next to the couch.”
