Women’s tournament

Ons Jabeur has effortlessly qualified for the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. The Tunisian settled in two sets with the American Bernarda Pera. It became 6-3 6-1.

For Jabeur it is the first time that she has reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. “Twice before I was in the fourth round, twice I couldn’t get any further. Now it is,” she said after the game. Jabeur was a losing finalist at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2022.

Jabeur, the world number 7, will compete in the quarterfinals against the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia: the number 14 in the world. Maia won in three sets against the Spanish Sara Sorribes Tormo: 6-7(7) 6-3 7-5. The match lasted almost 4 hours and was just short of the longest women’s match ever at Roland Garros.

Demi Schuurs, together with her American doubles partner Desirae Krawczyk, failed to reach the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. Schuurs and Krawczyk, placed fifth, lost in the round of 16 against Su-Wei Hsieh from Taiwan and Chinese Xinyu Wang, who won the match 7-6 (6) 6-4.

Schuurs never got further than the third round at Roland Garros. She reached at least the quarterfinals at the other three grand slam tournaments.

Schuurs (29) was the only Dutch tennis player in the women’s doubles in Paris.
