The Flemish government is waving 119 million euros in subsidies to keep Volvo Car in Ghent. With this financial carrot, Flemish Prime Minister Matthias Diependaele (N-VA) wants to convince parent company Geely to invest billions in Ghent. There has been unrest for months about the future of our country’s last car factory. It doesn’t help that production came to a complete standstill last week due to a strike at a supplier.
