Jewelery company Cartier filed an unfair competition lawsuit against US rival Tiffany & Co in a New York court on Tuesday.
Senior executives at Tiffany & Co are said to have attempted to “inappropriately” obtain information about Cartier’s operations in the United States, an email to AFP said. Cartier is owned by the Swiss luxury group Richemont
A former employee who left Cartier to join Tiffany is also named in the lawsuit.
“Cartier fully respects the right of its competitors to pursue their commercial goals,” it said. “However, in this case, Tiffany’s commercial ambitions have crossed the line between the ordinary course of business and unfair competition,” it said.
High-end jeweler Tiffany, which was acquired by French luxury giant LVMH last year, firmly denied the claim. “Tiffany formally denies these baseless allegations and will vigorously defend itself,” the US company said. (AFP)
