Caroline van der Plas thinks the criticism that SBS 6 has received against celebrities in the hospital is unjustified. The politician and the other participants received many thousands of euros for their participation.

Marcel van Roosmalen is one of the celebrities who refused the invitation to participate in celebrities in the hospital. He does, however, know what compensation is involved and he has disclosed that. Caroline van der Plas then immediately announced that she would already donate her wages to charity.

Generous compensation

It is a pity that people immediately assume that she is all about the money, says Caroline in conversation with the Weekend. “Also an assumption: ‘Oh, she does that for the money.’ No not at all. If they hadn’t given me a wage, I would have done it too. At first I didn’t want a fee, because I’m already being paid by the citizen.”

Caroline does not need extra money. “I have a good salary as a Member of Parliament. But I did get a fee, that’s how it goes with that program. Then I said: ‘Then I would like that to go to the Support Casper foundation, which fights against pancreatic cancer.’ I do that with all programs that give a fee to participate.”

Caroline supports SBS 6

What exactly did Caroline get for it? “Marcel van Roosmalen (…) said that he had been offered EUR 2,500 per half-day. I have done twelve half-days, but will not mention my total amount. That’s up to the program. But it was a significant amount.”

Doesn’t it go a bit far for celebrities to walk in the hospital for part of a day and collect 2,500 euros, while for some nurses that is not even a monthly salary? No, says Caroline. She does not think the criticism of SBS 6 is justified. “It is a commercial channel that deals with its own pots. It’s not tax money.”

suspicious

Caroline is getting a little tired of it. “I think that discussion in itself is understandable, except: people are so suspicious. This is a very positive program, the people in the hospital have all had a conversation beforehand to see if they wanted it and who didn’t, were not shown.”

She concludes: “It would be nice if people would dig a little more into how it all works before they judge.”
