Caroline van der Plas is really, really angry about the boa-bashing of Özcan Akyol. She thinks the presenter is completely missing the point. “This is truly an outrageous comment.”
Özcan Akyol has made complete mincemeat of boas in our country’s most popular talk show. He really went all out on them at the table at Today Inside on Monday. “If you can’t do anything anymore, you become a boa. It’s toy police! I always say to my children: you have to read books, otherwise you will become a boa later,” he said, among other things.
‘This is scandalous’
What bizarre statements, says Caroline van der Plas. “Disgraceful comment. Offending tens of thousands of boas. Also guards at your performances Eus. Mediapark guards. You name it. Maybe you should take enforcement, supervision and safety training before you open your mouth. Then you’ll know what you’re talking about.”
She continues on X: “Eus doesn’t even know what a boa is. A security guard at the Media Park, who ensures his safety and that of the guests, is also a boa. The Safety and Service employee at a station is also a boa. The security guard in a store, who watches out for shoplifters, is also a boa.”
‘Does not make any sense’
Lilian Helder, Member of Parliament for BBB, is stunned. “I can often laugh at the men of Today Inside, but this makes no sense. Misplaced, incorrect and disrespectful. Maybe spend a day with a boa and a police officer?”
NRC columnist Aylin Bilic: “Is this humor? Or does he just have no idea what a boa does? Maybe join us for a day, I would say.”
From the sidelines
VVD councilor Vincent Karremans is stunned. “If you can’t do anything, you become a columnist. Just whining from the sidelines, without adding anything to society. Our boas, on the other hand, are very skilled and work very hard for society, our safety and quality of life.”
Investigative journalist Kim van Keken: “An overloaded police force, too few officers and therefore more tasks for boas: men and women who work hard and do what they are told. But let’s piss them off on TV.”
