The guesswork for the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft is over! As expected, the Carolina Panthers choose Bryce Young. The Alabama quarterback is set to be the playmaker of the future at Charlotte.
Over the past few weeks, Young has been slowly making his way to the top of the pundits’ draft boards. He overtook CJ Stroud, among others, who was long considered the Panthers’ favorite.
When the Panthers announced earlier this week that they had already decided on a quarterback, most were already talking about Young as a safe pick – and the experts were right.
Carolina’s selection shows that the doubts about the statue of the quarterback were probably made bigger in the end than they really were.
Because of his statue, critics believed, the playmaker lacked the necessary perspective behind the big players on the offensive line.
Young smiled at the never-ending questions in a relaxed manner: “I’m concentrating on what I can control and I can’t grow. That doesn’t fall into this category. I can’t get bigger,” Young clarified again.
“I don’t know how to play the game any other way. I’ve been this big in comparison to the people around me all my life,” said the Panthers’ new playmaker

Young, meanwhile, scores on another level. The 21-year-old has an extremely high football IQ. He already knows how to quickly read the opponent’s defense and how to move correctly. He reportedly scored a “98 out of 99” on the S2 cognition test, a test that measures processing ability.
Also due to his high understanding of the game, Young moves outstandingly in the pocket and thus gives his receivers the necessary time.
His game does not live from the plays as such, but from making the right decisions.
