The municipality of Maastricht calls on tourists not to come and celebrate carnival in the provincial capital this year.

“It is really the intention that everyone in their own municipality celebrates,” said Mayor Annemarie Penn-te Strake. “Normally we welcome everyone, but not this year.”

Smaller and more limited
In Maastricht, just like in other Limburg municipalities, the mainland celebration is smaller and more limited. “I am very pleased that the cabinet has provided space to celebrate carnival. Maastricht is ready, and I wholeheartedly wish it on everyone,” says Penn-te Strake. “On the other hand, the virus has not gone away yet, and the minister has given a number of clear advice.
