A group of carnival revelers narrowly escaped a collision with a train late on Sunday evening in Berghem. The car that had entered the Zevenbergseweg level crossing was rammed by a Sprinter. It is not known whether there was someone on the car at the time or whether all carnival goers had already left the vehicle. The car was partly destroyed. The front of the train and the level crossing installation were severely damaged.

The driver of the train was the only one injured. He was taken to a hospital. The carnival revelers escaped unscathed.

Train traffic between Nijmegen and Oss will be halted until four o’clock on Sunday night, the Dutch Railways expect. Replacement transport is being arranged for the hundred passengers of the stranded train. Rail manager ProRail will take care of this.

The police are conducting an investigation. The Dutch Safety Board has also been involved. Employees were on their way for an hour on Sunday night in Berghem to find out what happened.

The first report of the accident on Zevenbergseweg came in around half past eleven on Sunday evening.
