Carnival orchestra fully booked in no time: ‘Everyone feels like a party’

Mop orchestras and brass bands are eager to play again at Carnival. Fun band De Klepzijkers in Teteringen didn’t have to think long about whether they wanted to play carnival again. “In no time, the carnival was completely full of appointments.”

“Only on Saturday evening it is not yet clear what we are going to do,” says secretary Marco Damen of the 16-piece band. “There are some options, so we’ll have to look at them.”

With the owner of their home base, De Beyerd in Breda, they were quickly out. “We play there two nights. We also have a performance at the harbor in Breda, for example, and we have our own festival on Tuesday in By Tater in Teteringen. The bands and chapels we asked were immediately enthusiastic.”

The Klepzijkers have been around since 1988 and are therefore used to organizing a party. Throughout the year, the 16 classically trained musicians also play different music together, but with Carnival it’s time to party.

A performance from 2019:

Normally, the preparation for carnival for the Klepzijkers already starts in October. Now it was long uncertain whether anything would be possible. “We went through all kinds of options with De Beyerd early on. Digital, seated, only outside or a full party, those were the variants. And for every variant we had a plan.

“There were some doubts among some members,” says Marco. “Do we have to go back into those full halls, they wondered on Friday. Not everyone saw that. That is why we have now canceled one appointment in a very full tent, where you walk through the audience. In other matters, it is well organized with a separate stage and a space where you can sit separately for a while.”

Marco Damen expects a beautiful carnival. “I think it will become less massive, but perhaps more intense. Everyone is ready to party.”

Last year only an online party was possible:
