Carnival one more time, the last parade in the South of the Netherlands

Carnival celebrations in Someren were able to indulge themselves one last time on Sunday afternoon. Here the last big carnival parade was held with the most beautiful floats from Brabant and Limburg.

Cart from stable this pageant is called and it has been held for the third time. Everywhere along the route in Someren, the public sometimes stood in rows to enjoy the fourteen cars. The 44-meter car from Someren-Eind was very successful, but a large colorful group from CV De Flausmause also provided a party where the confetti colored the streets again.

“This is the crème de la crème”, says Peter van de Voort of the organization. They are only holding this parade for the third time, but it is highly regarded by the public. “The idea originated in 2018,” says Van de Voort. “The first parade was in 2019, of course there was nothing in the past two years due to corona, but now it is again.”

“Take everything out of the closet one more time, very nice.”

He beams as he looks around. He is proud of Brabant and Limburg. “I think it’s great to see all those young groups, how enthusiastic they are. It’s just one big party.” Van de Voort is clearly emotional. “I am a carnival person in heart and soul. I really think it’s fantastic. Getting everything out of the closet one more time, very nice.”

A boy of about ten years old on the side looks delighted at the revolving dolls on the colorful floats, but he still prefers the parade of Boemeldonck (Prinsenbeek) “That is even more beautiful”, according to the young expert. “We went on winter sports,” says his mother. “So we missed the parade in Tilburg, but he is a fan of carnival and we will enjoy this parade for a while.” Other children collect confetti and throw it back to the people on the wagons. They don’t suffer from the cold.

“I had blisters with carnival, but now it’s going well again.”

A girl in flower power outfit is already on her fourth pageant. Her group dances and jangles around a roadworks truck. “I had blisters at carnival,” she says, “but that was two weeks ago, now things are going well again.”

Dancing merrily, she continued on her way with the rest of her group. An estimated 5,000 to 7,000 spectators attended the parade. Sunday evening is the big award ceremony and it will become clear which construction club can call itself the champion of the South Netherlands.
