The leaked relaxations also make carnival clubs spring up, because it seems that more is possible. There are no fully thought-out plans yet, but there are many question marks. But with the necessary creativity, carnival in its original form seems to be getting a little closer.
The cabinet wants to reopen the catering industry, culture and part of the events. For example, the catering industry and culture could open until ten o’clock in the evening under certain conditions. Events can also continue indoors, but with fixed seats and with a limit of 1250 visitors, leaked plans showed on Monday.
They are in constant consultation in Breda, says Anouk Bakker of the Kielegat Foundation. “It looks a bit more favourable, which is positive,” she concludes. For this week there is a lot of consultation with the board, municipality and catering. “As soon as there are concrete plans, we will announce them.”
They are already together in Oosterhout on Monday evening, says chairman Ernst-Jan van Langh of Oosterhout carnival association De Smulnarren. “It is quite fresh off the press, we have to wait for the official press conference. But you can count on us cracking our brains to get started with this.”
According to him, one thing is certain: “We are going to improvise, let go of frameworks and see what is possible. We want to do everything that is possible and allowed.” Although a seated carnival does not make much sense, according to him: “If we can’t go in, we go outside.”
They are also happy with the relaxation in Tilburg, says Steven van Gils van Kruikenstad, carnival foundation Tilburg. “This offers perspective again! It is too early to report concrete plans, but we are very happy that more is possible.”
Consultations with the municipality and catering industry will also be paramount in Eindhoven in the coming days, says Ivo Soetens of the Eindhoven Carnival federation. They canceled the Great Parade last week because a full-fledged parade would not be possible due to lack of time. That decision therefore stands.
“We have said: if we can do something, we will do it. At the same time, we feel responsible to do it within the measures.”
He doesn’t see big tents happening in the city anytime soon with a maximum of 1250 people who have to stay put. “Carnival is accompanied by the necessary drink. Then most people won’t stay put, I know that about myself.”
