Carnival celebration ends up on the wrong bank and is rescued with a cherry picker

A man from Geldrop ended up in a ditch in Waalre on Saturday evening, after looking way too deep into the glass. He managed to scramble back onto shore, but on the wrong bank. He was so drunk that he could not stand on his feet and called the emergency services himself to be rescued.

The start of carnival was a solid one for the Geldrop resident. Around nine o’clock on Saturday evening, he accidentally ended up in a ditch along the Voorbeeklaan in Waalre. Soaking wet, he managed to climb onto the side again. But on the other side.

According to a 112 correspondent, the man was too far gone to jump back over the water to the right side of the ditch himself. And then the victim decided to call the emergency services himself.

Officers who rushed to the scene could laugh at the situation, according to our correspondent. An officer jumped across to assist the man. Meanwhile, an aerial platform of the fire brigade was called in to bring the man back to the right side of the ditch.

There he was checked by paramedics. The man was completely wet and cold, but not hypothermic. A taxi has been ordered for him to take him to Geldrop.
