Carlos Queiroz, Jürgen Klinsmann, Qatar World Cup

Carlos Queiroz did not take kindly to Jürgen Klinsmann’s comments.

Iran head coach Carlos Queiroz said the football legend Jürgen Klinsmann of words.

The German commented on Iran’s play when the team beat Wales 2-0 on Friday.

Klinsmann highlighted how Iran’s bench and the players on the field tried to influence the refereeing.

– That’s their way of working and that’s why Carlos Queiroz fits them so well in the Iranian national football team, Klinsmann commented for the BBC.

Klinsmann continued by stating that Queiroz did not succeed in his previous spells with the national teams of Colombia and Egypt.

Queiroz returned to Iran’s helm for this year. He was the head coach of the country’s national football team most recently in 2011–2019.

– So it’s not a coincidence, but a purposeful action, Klinsmann pointed out.

– It is part of their culture and the way they play. You saw when the entire bench jumped up every time, tried to influence the fourth referee and the line judges. They were always in their ears, always in front of their faces.

Queiroz responded to the German with a snap on his Twitter account. He demanded that Klinsmann resign from his role in Fifa.

– You question my character with typical prejudice, even though you don’t even know me.

– As much as I respect what you did on the pitch, those remarks about Iran’s culture, the national team and my players are a disgrace to football. No one can insult our integrity, he continued.

Queiroz eventually invited Klinsmann to get to know the activities of the Iranian national team, talk to the players and learn about the country and the Iranian people.

– We promise not to judge your culture, roots or background. We expect you to part with your pesti before you visit our camp, he concluded his tweet thread.

Klinsmann responded to Queiroz’s outburst on Sunday on the BBC.

– I was just describing their emotional way of doing things, which is actually admirable in a certain way. The entire bench lives with the game. They jump up and down and Carlos is a very emotional coach himself. He is constantly on the sideline giving his players all his energy.

Iran is second in Group B. It faces the United States on Tuesday.
