Carlos García Morales, ‘Matador’, the drug trafficker who intended to introduce 1,275 kilos of cocaine into Spain from Siero

Carlos Garcia Morales, aka ‘Matador’is the narco from Ourense who has been arrested for directing from Asturias the network that tried to introduce 1,275 kilos of cocaine with a sailboat from South America. ‘Matado'” had a warehouse in the Asturian town of Naón to store the cocaine. The presence of this first sword of drugs in Asturias shows that the region has been used as a “rearguard” when police pressure becomes unbearable in Galicia. García Morales is from Xinzo de Limia, but after serving prison he decided to settle in Siero, also in the Principality, from where he ran his business.

Carlos Garcia Morales was arrested in Medellín in 2011 during a Dijin raid, in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office and the DEA, the United States Drug Enforcement Agency. The man from Orense was part of the so-called “Rama Gallega” drug trafficking organization, linked to the criminal gang “Los Rastrojos”, which supplied him with cocaine. He had partnered with Russian and Italian drug trafficking organizations in order to strengthen his presence in the European market.

‘Matador’ was a fugitive from the Spanish Justice since the beginning of 2009, when an anti-drug operation was carried out in Spain that led to his involvement in drug trafficking operations. When he was arrested in Medellín, he planned to travel to Australia and was facing a drug-trafficking trial at the National Court, urged by Judge Garzón, for which he had been requested to be extradited in June 2010. And it is that García Morales worked for one of the big drug lords in the Arousa estuary, José Manuel Vila Sieira, ‘El Presidente’, in Garzón’s sights.
