‘Carlo Boszhard too important to be taken off the pipe’

Rob Goossens thinks that a presenter like Carlo Boszhard is too important to be removed from the tube as a precaution. “Then you can broadcast a test image every evening, because it fills half the schedule.”

Carlo Boszhard was recently briefly discredited, because both Jan Roos and Yvonne Coldeweijer accused him of transgressive behaviour. The presenter has reported this to the police. Since then it has been quiet: no evidence has surfaced and no possible victims have come forward.

Incredibly innocent

It seems to have been a storm in a teacup, says RTL Boulevard star Eddy Zoëy. “If you look at the Carlo Boszhard case, I think everyone of us knows by now: I don’t think there is much going on there. In fact, I think the man is incredibly innocent.”

If there had really been something wrong with Carlo, then RTL would have intervened, according to TV expert Rob Goossens. “We cannot say that RTL does not take it seriously. It is of course our own club, so it will be interpreted as ‘We from WC duck’ by many people, but if you look at how they have dealt with The Voice…”

Carlo not canceled

The Voice was immediately taken off the tube and the spin-offs have been canceled as a precaution. RTL cannot afford that with a Carlo Boszhard, explains Rob.

He says: “With a Carlo Boszhard… Even if you were to say: we will remove it from the channel as a precaution, because we don’t want people to talk about other things than his programs… Yes, that’s actually not possible, because then you go broadcast test image every night, because it just fills half the programming.”

3D chess

TV stations don’t take these kinds of decisions overnight, Rob knows. “It’s actually a form of 3D chess because you have the seriousness of the accusations, the credibility of the sender, how the public reacts to them, and also just the importance of whoever is involved in a broadcaster, although broadcasters will don’t say it out loud.”

According to colleague Luuk Ikink, it is also difficult for TV channels to respond to rumours. “Stories and accusations are coming from all sides, including from juice channels, which then turn out to be correct. I assume it is therefore difficult for broadcasters and also RTL and SBS to deal with this.”
