Matthijs van Nieuwkerk has received quite a bit of criticism for his decision to present The Connection, because as a great TV talent that would be below his rank. According to critics such as Angela de Jong, he would make himself interchangeable with this. What exactly does Carlo Boszhard think of that?

‘Not perfect’

Carlo says that he thinks the format of The Connection is strong, but that Matthijs still needs to grow. “A good quiz host cannot save a bad quiz. The other way around. Not that Matthijs isn’t doing well, he has too much flair and charisma for that. He just needs the time to work on the perfect timing that comes with a quiz.”

The presenter continues in his Televizier column that presenting a quiz is not easy. He therefore does not agree with the criticism that it is below Matthijs his position. “I read criticism why the acclaimed Matthijs finds it necessary to present this show. But believe me: a quiz is presenting a university of applied sciences.”

‘Harder than DWDD’

Harder than The World Keeps Going On? Yes, thinks Carlo. “Much more difficult than a good conversation at the table. But in the Netherlands, strangely enough, a talk show is still seen as the ultimate. In a quiz you have to have everything under control. The rhythm, the conversation, the tension and making it look like it’s really easy.”

“Matthijs is getting better at the latter, who has known the answer to the following question for a long time: quiz, presentation and timing… The connection is: not easy, but fun.”
