The first round of the French presidential elections is yet another alarm signal about the decline of the traditional parties. They continue to play, like the orchestra on the Titanic, which sank exactly 110 years ago yesterday. That orchestra is famous because it kept playing heroically self-sacrificing to avoid panic. Critics, however, believe that this created a false sense of security, as a result of which people did not seek rescue in time. Anyway, the orchestra went under.
