General practice De Vrije Gang and the Harener real estate developer Urban Healthsquares will start building a new health center in Bedum this year. The new building will be built at the current location of the GP practice on the corner of De Vrije Gang and De Vlijt.

The ambition is to accommodate ‘a large part of the activities related to care and welfare in Bedum’ in one central place. In addition to the general practice, the care organizations Benu Apotheek, Physiotherapy Den Ommelanden, GGD, Andringa Podotherapy, TSN Thuiszorg and Buurtzorg will be housed in the health center.

Parties such as Certe medical laboratory, Carin Pool Voedingsbureau, Ludwig Kliniek and Westerkwartier Hoorcentrum may use the new building for one or more half-days a week. Discussions are still underway about this.

Sustainability, safety and health

The building plans emphasize sustainability, safety and health. Sustainable materials are used, there is a focus on low energy and water consumption and extra attention is paid to a healthy indoor environment.

During the construction, which will start in the second half of this year, the general practice will be located at a different location in Bedum. A home is still being sought for this.

Completion is expected in 2023.
