A change to the use of contactless payment at store checkouts came into effect on January 1, 2024. You no longer need to insert the card into the device, even for purchases over 50 euros. However, the change does not mean that the PIN code is no longer needed. We told you in October that the so-called single tap requirement will enter into force in Finland at the beginning of 2024. The single tap function of payment terminals enables contactless payment regardless of the amount. Previously, the payment terminal asked to enter the card into the device if the total amount of the purchase was more than 50 euros.
