The pioneer in the development of enzymatic solutions for the recycling of plastic and textile polymers, Carbios, announced the presentation of the Biocat Award to its Chief Research Officer, Alain Marty, in the Industry category.
The award, considered one of the most prestigious awards in biotechnology, went to Chief Scientific Officer Marty to recognize his achievements in the field of enzymatic recycling of plastics and PET fibers.
In particular, it recognizes Marty’s research in the field of enzymatic optimization to exploit the exceptional specificity of enzymes in the service of the circular economy of plastics. Since 2004, the prize has been awarded to scientists who have distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements in the field of biocatalysis.
“I am very honored to receive this award. It fills me with great pride that the work of our research teams and all our partners is so well recognized by colleagues in our industry. I would like to thank the scientists at TBI and Carbios for the collaborative work they have done to find a sustainable solution to the end-of-life of plastics and textiles,” Marty comments in a statement.
The Biocat Award was presented as part of the 10th International Congress on Biocatalysis, which took place from August 28th to 30th, 2022 at the Technical University of Hamburg and the opening lecture of which was given by Marty. More than 370 participants from science and industry from over 33 nations took part.
Founded in 2011 by Truffle Capital, Carbios develops biological and innovative processes for recycling plastic waste. In its process, the company breaks down any type of PET – the predominant polymer in polyester bottles, trays and textiles – into its basic components, which can then be reused to produce new PET plastics of the same quality as virgin material.
