A car with four people drove into the water on the Boterdijk in De Kwakel around 8:15 p.m. Three people were able to get out of the car themselves, one person was unable to do so.
Several bystanders jumped into the water to help the person who was still in the car, a spokesperson for the safety region said. An attempt was made to smash the windows of the car.
Ultimately we managed to get the fourth person onto the side. The victim was then resuscitated and rushed to hospital. Nothing is known about his or her condition.
The car has now been removed from the water and the police are investigating the cause of the accident, according to a spokesperson for the safety region.
