A car transporter on the N33 caught fire tonight between Assen and Rolde. The driver was able to park the car on the slip road of a gas station in time. Due to the fire and the extinguishing work by the alarmed fire brigade, the side of the road towards Assen had to be temporarily closed to traffic.
The fire was under control around 6.30pm. The vehicle, which originated from Germany, suffered extensive damage on the inside. The driver and a second passenger were not injured. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The vehicle continues to be towed.
