Five fires in four districts – the Berlin fire brigade had their hands full on Tuesday night!
Diplomatic car in Mitte on fire
A Mercedes belonging to the Nigerian embassy caught fire on Alexanderstrasse in Mitte late Monday evening. The fire brigade extinguished the vehicle, which was on fire inside. Alexanderstrasse was therefore completely blocked between Grunerstrasse and Holzmarktstrasse.
Car trailer burns in Kaulsdorf
On Tuesday morning just before 1 a.m., the Berlin fire brigade was alerted to Ernst-Bloch-Strasse in Kaulsdorf. There was a car trailer on fire. The emergency services extinguished the fire and were able to prevent it from spreading to another trailer. The police are investigating on suspicion of arson.
Kiosk in Kaulsdorf on fire
A kiosk also burned during the night on Heinrich-Grüber-Strasse in Berlin-Kaulsdorf. The Berlin fire brigade was on site with almost thirty emergency services and extinguished the fire. There was property damage of an unknown amount. According to BZ information, the kiosk caught fire ten years ago. There is a suspicion of arson.
Fire in building in Lichtenrade
At around 11:30 p.m., the fire brigade was alerted by passers-by to a residential building on Lichtenrader Damm in Lichtenrade that had apparently been empty since 1992. According to BZ information, the basement and roof caught fire. 26 firefighters were deployed. According to the information, the building has recently been frequently inhabited by homeless people. However, no one was believed to have been there at the time of the fire.
The Lichtenrader Damm was completely closed to traffic between Barnetstrasse and Löptener Strasse due to the fire brigade operation. The fire brigade’s response lasted almost two hours. Arson is also suspected here. The police are investigating.
Flames on the balcony in Gropiusstadt
Early Tuesday morning at around 2.15 a.m., several passers-by at a gas station on Neuköllner Strasse noticed a clear glow of flames on a balcony on the 13th floor of a high-rise building on Agnes-Staub-Weg in Gropiusstadt. The men immediately alerted the Berlin fire department.
According to BZ information, the fire brigade was able to quickly extinguish a burning chair on the balcony of the safety stairwell. The police are also investigating the case on suspicion of arson.
