A car that spontaneously catches fire on the highway. Five passengers of a BMW on the A1 suddenly had to get out of the car tonight. A passing motorist came to the rescue and was able to take three of them. The other two watched with dismay as the vehicle went up in flames.
The BMW drove in the direction of Almelo. Near Bathmen, the car suddenly caught fire. The passengers, three adults and two children, were on their way home. The children and one of the adults were taken care of by a motorist who also happened to be heading for Almelo.
Emergency services tried to save the vehicle, but to no avail. The car is completely burnt out at the front and is being towed by a salvage company. Two lanes have been closed in connection with the fire so that other traffic can pass safely.
