The parking light can prevent accidents
If you park your car at night on a street that is poorly lit or not lit at all, you should not forget the parking lights. Without adequate lighting, accidents with other road users can quickly occur. According to the road traffic regulations, vehicles in built-up areas must switch on the parking lights on the side of the vehicle facing the road when stopping at the side of the road.
But even in streets with existing lanterns, lighting must be used in some cases. So some street lights are turned off at some point during the night. These lamps are provided with a red ring (traffic sign 394).
Stricter rules apply outside of built-up areas
Outside built-up areas, the road traffic regulations are even stricter when parking at night. Here it is mandatory to switch on the parking lights on both sides when parking on the street.
If the parking light or parking light is not switched on in town and an accident occurs, the owner may be partially to blame, according to t-online.
How to turn on the parking lights
According to the comparison portal Check24, there is no difference in the light intensity between parking and standlights. Both have front and rear lights on both sides of the car and are much weaker than the low beam.
Turning on the parking light depends on the car model. This can work with an extra (rotary) switch using the light lever on the steering wheel. The details can be found in the operating instructions (manual) of the vehicle. Alternatively, the auto setting can also be selected for the switch. The parking light is then automatically activated when required.
