On 1 July 2024, the Dutch Association of Insurers and the Stichting Efficiënte Processen Schadeverzekeraars will introduce a new system for the registration of claim-free years.
This makes it possible for car owners to view the exact number of accrued claim-free years and months at any time. This makes it easier for motorists to see whether switching is worthwhile, concludes financial research agency MoneyView.
The number of claim-free years affects the premium of a car insurance policy. But the discount that insurers offer based on those claim-free years differs per provider. Cheap insurance can therefore become more expensive than equivalent alternatives within a few years, according to the study.
Errors
At the moment, people state the number of claim-free years themselves when they take out car insurance. Figures from insurers show that up to 50 percent of those statements are incorrect. This then leads to just as many incorrectly drawn up policies.
Insurers only discover errors later, when they check Roy data, the current system for registering claim-free years. The subsequently corrected policies are currently causing confusion for customers and additional work for insurers.
