Along the Hoofdweg in Veenhuizen, a car ended up in the Veenhuizerkanaal around 8 p.m. tonight. The driver managed to get to safety after the incident, after which emergency services took care of the victim.
The car ended up exactly between two bridges in the canal. When emergency services were notified, they rushed to Veenhuizen. An air ambulance was also called up, but once on site it turned out that this deployment was not necessary.
Once ashore, the driver was checked for injuries in an ambulance, but a hospital visit did not appear to be necessary. Police are still investigating how the driver ended up in the water.
