A motorist escaped unhurt last night after driving into a fallen tree, which completely blocked the Nieuw-Amsterdamseweg (N853) near Zandpol.
Because the front bumper absorbed the impact, both the driver and the accompanying dog escaped unscathed.
The emergency services were called just before 1 a.m. to help those involved and make the road passable again. The tree, probably succumbed to the strong wind, was sawn into smaller pieces and removed from the road in parts.
The optator resulted in the car being declared a total loss. A recovery company towed the vehicle.
