Car driver does not survive serious traffic accident on Lierse Ring | Winch

WinchA serious accident happened on the Ring of Lier (R16) on Friday morning. The driver did not survive the accident.

The accident happened around 3.30 am at the intersection of the Ring with the Mallekotstraat and the Plaslaar. A car driver on the ring road left his lane for an unknown reason and collided with a lighting pole and a traffic light. The damage is very great. The vehicle became wedged between the lighting pole and the traffic light.

loud bang

Bystanders witnessed a loud bang and immediately notified emergency services. The fire brigade, the police and the medical services attended the scene. Unfortunately, the latter could only determine the death of the driver. The police closed the Ring at the intersection with Hagenbroeksesteenweg and that of the Ring with Antwerpsesteenweg.

Detour

The fire brigade had to come to the scene to grind down the traffic light and the lighting pole. Police are now investigating the circumstances of the accident. The vehicle had to be towed after the findings. It is not yet known when the lane will be reopened. Until then, traffic will follow a detour.
