Car driver (53) does not survive impact against tree
The man was driving his Ford Focus on the Wakkensesteenweg at around 8.30 pm when he strayed from his lane at a bend to the right. He tried to correct, but ended up hitting a tree on the other side of the road. The emergency services were quickly on the scene, but they could only confirm the death of the driver. The man from Dentergem (born in 1970) died instantly. It was an accident with no other vehicles. That is why the public prosecutor did not appoint a traffic expert.
Fateful place
In 2016, a motorcyclist was killed in almost exactly the same place. That was again on August 26. The bend is therefore a dangerous place for traffic. Traffic was disrupted for several hours due to the accident last night.
