Car dives ‘nose first’ into the recycling street of Coevorden

In the recycling center of Area Cleaning on the Morseweg in Coevorden, a car plunged headfirst into a waste bin just before half past one this afternoon. The car made the plunge because the driver overlooked that there was nothing behind the abyss.

“This has never happened,” Leonie Spronk of Area Cleaning says. The driver was not injured, according to Spronk. “We gave them some water and let them recover.”

Area is investigating how such an accident can be prevented in the future. “They were changing a container and the driver couldn’t see that the ramp stopped there.”

Normally, containers are exchanged before the opening of the recycling center. “But even when the street is open, it sometimes happens that a container has to be exchanged. We are going to see how that can be done differently,” says Spronk.

The car was put back on its wheels by a recovery company.
